ISPO and the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University jointly organised the conference České parlamentní volby 2010 [Czech Parliamentary election 2010] in the assembly hall of the Faculty on 7 May 2010.

The audience consisted of first-time voters – secondary school students, with presentations by V. Havlík about the development of the Czech party system, S. Balík on the cancelled 2009 early election, B. Petrová on the role played in the campaign by the media, R. Chytilek and O. Eibl on opinion polls and A. Matušková on the use of marketing in the campaign.

The second part was dedicated to discussion with prominent party candidates in the South Moravia region. Walter Bartoš (ODS), Stanislav Juránek (KDU-ČSL), Augustin Forman (KSČM), Jana Drápalová (SZ), Anna Putnová (TOP 09) and Josef Dobeš (VV) accepted the invitation. Moderated by Otto Eibl, the discussion included topics such as the proposed state examinations in high schools, tuition fees in universities and authorship rights; the discussants gladly answered questions of the audience. At the end the speakers could compare their attitudes with the political positions of the parties they represent.

The conference was organised as part of a specific project examining the electoral cycle in Central and Eastern Europe.
