Comparative on-line database of electoral results (CODER)

The application you are now accessing allows you to compare electoral results in European countries according to a set of variables. A description of those variables can be found here.

The basic version of the comparative database allows work with data at either a synchronic or a diachronic level. You must first register if you wish to work at both levels concurrently, and also if you wish to combine them. The registration allows not only simultaneous comparisons, but it also grants access to some other variables above the basic set.

The current version of the system facilitates the following in particular:

  1. comparison within one dimension and time unit: study of one electoral event (synchronic comparison)
  2. comparison within one dimension (country) and multiple time units: comparison of several electoral events (diachronic comparison)
  3. comparison of several dimensions and time units: comparison of multiple electoral events in different dimensions (a combination of synchronic and diachronic comparison)

All the outputs, mostly composed of tables, can be readily printed from the web browser, or exported to PDF and XLS formats.

The output is subject to the publication and citation standards of the social sciences. The logic algorithms were conceived by a team of political scientists from the Institute for Comparative Political Research at the Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University, Brno.

We hope that further use of this data and its distribution will benefit the development of electoral studies both in the Czech Republic and abroad.
