Ondřej Císař graduated in economics at Technical University in Ostrava and in Political Science at Central European University in Budapest and Masaryk University in Brno. His research within the Institute for Comparative Political Research covers social movements, interest groups and the trans-nationalisation of their activities in the context of the Czech Republic's accession to the European Union. He is a docent (approx. Reader in the UK; Associate Professor in the US) at the Department of Political Science at the Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University, where he teaches theory of social movements and of interest groups, and political theory. He is also active in the Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences, where he edits Sociologický časopis (Journal of Sociology). He has authored or co-authored a number of scholarly books, including four monographs. His current research project studies organised political activism in the Czech Republic, but he is also involved in the project "Processes Influencing Democratic Ownership and Participation" (PIDOP, Seventh Framework Programme) where he focuses on the contextual determinants of political participation.
