The 2010 election of the Czech Parliament’s Chamber of Deputies has been called “surprising” and  “a watershed”. The results are described as unexpected and revolutionary, reflecting a clear message sent by the public to the political elite. The volume Volby do Poslanecké sněmovny v roce 2010 [The 2010 election of the Chamber of Deputies] endeavours to analyse the electoral process in the widest approach possible. The book can be divided into three section. The first is dedicated to circumstances preceding the election proper: development of political parties and the party system during the electoral term 2006-2010 and the issue of early election called for 2009 but eventually cancelled. The second section contains chapters about the 2010 election itself, focusing on electoral programmes, parties’ campaigns, the role played in the campaign by the media, election polls, use of preference votes, influence of candidate personality on the decisions of the electorate, and finally electoral geography, i.e. the territorial distribution of electoral results. The last section consist of a single chapter which looks into the possible consequences the planned but eventually abandoned electoral engineering would have had on the distribution of seats after the 2010 election.
